Exposure

The previous section showed you the main GHS symbols you will find in common cleaning chemicals and ways these chemicals can affect your health and environment.

Now we ALL must understand the three main ways we can be exposed to by chemicals:

1. Absorption

Absorption of a chemical can come by direct contact with our skin, hair or eyes.

2. Inhalation

Inhalation can occur when chemicals are applied by a fine mist or when the product produces a vapour.

3. Ingestion

Ingestion can occur where a product is mistakenly consumed.
Ingestion can also occur by contact of chemicals on hands and transferred to foods while eating or preparing foods.
